EQUIFAX EXECUTIVE SHIFTS TO COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM
Will Split Time Between the Atlanta Chamber and United Way
Atlanta, March 25, 1997 -- Equifax today announced that Gerald P. Becknel, vice president, Equifax Credit Information Services, has been named the company's latest Community Service Associate and will divide his time between the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.
Becknel is the 12th Equifax professional chosen to serve in the Community Service Associate program since its inception in 1994. This unique program allows associates approaching retirement to work for a non-profit agency while continuing on the Equifax payroll for a 12-to-24-month term. Becknel's assignment will extend to February 1999.
Equifax's president-designee, Thomas F. Chapman, who also serves as Vice Chair-International of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, sees the appointment "as a great opportunity for an executive to share his knowledge and skills acquired in the corporate environment with two of Atlanta's leading non-profit organizations."
Becknel has an impressive history of volunteerism with both the Chamber and United Way. He has led the Equifax team to record performance with the Chamber for more than three years. He also has served the Chamber as vice chairman on the recent two-year campaign for the Atlanta Olympics.
Becknel's new assignment at the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce will involve service as a cabinet member and vice chairman of campaigns. While serving at United Way's Cobb County location, Becknel will assist the agency in new money development as well as executive development programs over the next two years.
Becknel's career with Equifax began in New Orleans in 1959. After various field management and sales assignments on the West Coast, he was promoted to assistant vice president - property and casualty market center in Atlanta and in 1988, was named vice president - national accounts. From 1990 until 1993, he served as senior vice president - credit reporting sales. Since 1993, Becknel has been involved in the technology area, heading up a credit information service project and a cost reduction program.
A native of New Orleans, Becknel is a graduate of California State University at Fullerton. A retired Navy captain with 37 1/2 years of service, Becknel and his wife Rae reside in Kennesaw. They have one son and three grandchildren.
