EQUIFAX AND UK YELLOW PAGES
ENTER INTO STRATEGIC ALLIANCE
Combination of Communications & Information Expertise
Promises to Empower Buyers and Sellers
ATLANTA and LONDON, JUNE 22, 1998 -- Equifax today announced that it has entered into a major strategic alliance with the UK Yellow Pages Group, a division of British Telecommunications plc. The group is headquartered in Reading, Berkshire, England. The alliance comprises three elements: developing the most sophisticated business-to-business marketing capability in the United Kingdom market; joint product initiatives within e-commerce, new markets and stand-alone products, and support for value added reseller and outsourcing opportunities.
The strategic alliance will see UK Yellow Pages’ Business Database - the most comprehensive supplier of accurate business location data available in the UK today - enhanced with Equifax’s commercial database comprising information on companies’ directors and financial performance. Utilizing the innovative tools for which Equifax is an acknowledged leader in the consumer marketing arena, the mutual customers of The Business Database and Equifax will be able to conduct data mining and analysis to determine the profitability and key characteristics of customer databases. Customers will also be able to define and analyze their business markets, identify and select prospects as well as build and manage marketing databases to execute profitable sales and marketing campaigns.
For UK Yellow Pages, the alliance will initially satisfy a demand for value added services for customers of The Business Database. For Equifax, the alliance will enable the company to provide customers with a true ‘one stop’ solution for all their consumer and commercial customer prospecting and management needs.
Thomas F. Chapman, Equifax president and CEO, said, "This alliance with the UK Yellow Pages Group is another in a series of recent Equifax global initiatives to build information solution leadership. On June 8, the company announced a major alliance with IBM to provide security and trust for electronic commerce on the Internet, and just last week Equifax announced it had increased its ownership of its operations in Spain – ASNEF EQUIFAX – from 49 to 58 percent, resulting in approximately $35 million in revenue annually. Equifax is committed to growth and innovation worldwide."
Nick Bevan, Executive Vice President, Equifax, adds: "This is an exciting opportunity for Equifax. The strategic alliance with UK Yellow Pages has enormous scope. Both companies can capitalize upon their data, skills and expertise to provide a unique resource for businesses. The alliance will address a serious gap in the business to business market - an area which is growing rapidly through increased competition and the emergence of e-commerce. The development heralds a new era in customer acquisition and management."
John Condron, Managing Director, UK Yellow Pages, confirmed the significance of this alliance: "For some time we have been looking to add more value to our business-to-business services. Equifax was also looking to invest in the commercial marketing arena to leverage its expertise in consumer marketing services and has the integrity and creativity UK Yellow Pages demands.
"Business-to-business marketing services are just the start of what promises to be an enormously beneficial relationship as both companies work together to realize the opportunities which exist within e-commerce, in leading edge products and new markets. This alliance is a powerful combination of expertise and resources, which we believe puts us at the forefront of these new business areas," Condron added.
In the future, it is anticipated that initiatives from the alliance will address other aspects of business marketing, as well as providing information services for the commercial marketplace.
