Canadian Masterpiece Arrives In Olympic Host City
ATLANTA, July 1, 1996 -- Canada is sending more than athletes to represent the nation at the Centennial Olympic Games being held next month in the United States. A prized artwork from Canada will be on view in Atlanta, site of the Games, to take its position in a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition of world masterpieces being displayed as part of the 1996 Olympic Arts Festival. The masterpieces and exhibition are expected to draw as warm a reception and applause from world visitors as the athletic hopef
uls will during their pursuit of an Olympic medal.
The exhibition, Rings: Five Passions in World Art, embodies the ideals that inspire the Olympic Games and exemplifies the power of art to evoke five universal emotions, love, anguish, awe, triumph and joy. More than 125 masterpieces spanning 75 centuries and representing every region of the world are being brought together. Some of the masterpieces have never before been seen outside their home nation.
Equifax, a global information solution company with strong ties to Canada, is presenting sponsor of the international exhibition. Equifax Canada operates the largest credit reporting network and debt collection service in the country, in addition to being the largest check guarantee service in Canada, providing services in all provinces. The exhibition is organized by the High Museum of Art and produced by the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games Cultural Olympiad.
The artwork on view from Canada, titled Mother and Child, represents love and is in a stone medium by John Tiktak. The work is on loan from the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, Canada. Rings: Five Passions in World Art will open July 4 and run through September 29. For ticket information call the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games Ticket Information Line at 404-744-1996.
