EQUIFAX AND INFOCELLULAR TEAM UP TO HELP REDUCE WRITE-OFFS AND FRAUD FOR
WIRELESS CARRIERS
Seamless Interface for Customer Acquisition and Credit Risk Assessment
Atlanta, Jan. 29, 1997 -- Equifax and InfoCellular Inc. are joining
forces to offer wireless carriers instant access to the credit risk information
they need when signing up new customers.
InfoCellular's InfoCell(tm) software, which already is being used by more
than 20 major wireless carriers to guide retail and telemarketing employees in
acquiring and signing up new customers, will now provide a seamless electronic
link to Equifax Telecommunications and Utilities Services, or ETUS.
The user only enters customer information once within InfoCell and the
information is sent automatically to Equifax. The result is an overall customer
risk score and a calculated deposit or pre-payment which is presented at the
point of sale.
The interface, which is transparent to the customer, accesses all ETUS products
which can provide many services in a customized credit decision, including:
- Identification verification
- Driver's License verification
- Fraud alert
- Credit score for wireless industry
- Past telco account history
- Access to commercial credit information
in real time while the customer is in the store.
Val Perry, senior vice president and general manager, ETUS, said, "This
process can greatly reduce the carrier's bad debt write-offs and risk of fraud
while decreasing the time necessary for credit risk assessment at the point of
sale." The process also gives the user more time to spend with the
customer, perhaps cross selling additional products and services.
Bill Santo, president of InfoCellular, added, " The integration of
Equifax and InfoCellular products provides a user-friendly interface that
minimizes training time and greatly increases the efficiency of customer
acquisition transactions while reducing risk."
Equifax has led the way in developing scoring models that focus on
specialized types of loans and credit accounts. The models are developed by the
Equifax Decision Solutions division, a special unit of Financial Services Group
devoted to statistical analysis and modeling.
InfoCellular, Inc., of Wayland, Mass., has been providing software products
to the wireless industry for more than four years. InfoCellular's products,
which are installed at more than 20 major wireless carriers worldwide, provide
total customer and distribution channel management from customer acquisition to
customer retention. InfoCellular markets its products worldwide through a
direct sales force and partnerships.
