NATIONAL BANK OF CANADA PICKS EQUIFAX'S FBS SOFTWARE

ATLANTA and MONTREAL, Jan. 20, 1997 -- The National Bank of Canada, one of Canada's leading financial institutions, has selected Equifax's FBS Software to provide the computer software it will use to upgrade its purchasing card processing systems.

The National Bank of Canada will license FBS' software for its mainframe computer system. Installation is expected to be completed by the summer of 1997, allowing the bank to improve the system it uses to supply various commercial and corporate customers with MasterCard purchasing cards.

Financial terms of the new license agreement were not disclosed.

"We studied a variety of options and the specific proposals of several competitors and Equifax FBS clearly stood out," said Anne-Marie Lemire, General Manager of the bank's Card Division. "This arena of back office processing is absolutely critical to the satisfaction of our customers, meaning there's no room for error. We're confident FBS will deliver."

"To maintain our leadership in the card industry, we constantly invest in research and development and system upgrades while maintaining the broadest product mix of any company," said Larry Towe, FBS president. "We offer both mainframe and Unix solutions that allow our customers to customize without a lot of hassle."

The Atlanta-based FBS Software develops and licenses mainframe and Unix-based software for payment card processing, merchant portfolio processing and collections. Incorporated in 1986 as First Bankcard Systems, the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Equifax Inc. in 1994. Leading financial institutions in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Thailand and Turkey have turned to FBS for expert and innovative solutions in the collections and electronic payment industries.
