EQUIFAX CONSUMER CREDIT FILE
CAN BE ORDERED ON L.A. TIMES WEB SITE
"Autosource" and "Homesource" Link to Equifax Order Form
Atlanta, April 4, 1997 --
Equifax and the Los Angeles Times Company announced today that consumers can now order a copy of their Equifax credit file while visiting the L.A. Times Internet home page at http://www.latimes.com. "Autosource" and "Homesource," special sections of the paper's home page that help consumers find cars and homes -- and financing for them -- contain links to a special Equifax encryption-capable on-line order form.
Once ordered on-line, the consumer's credit file is sent out by mail within 24 hours.
John T. Rougeou, president, Equifax North America, said, "Our goal at Equifax is to be as accessible as possible to consumers. Through these links on the L.A. Times home page, consumers can order their credit file on-line while considering a major purchase requiring financing and credit. Knowing your credit status makes buying a car or home a smoother process right from the start."
Equifax is the first credit information company to offer consumers on-line ordering capability. The on-line order form has been on Microsoft Network since August 1995 and recently became available on CompuServe and on Equifax's own home page at http://www.equifax.com. Information furnished on the form by the consumer is encrypted in the consumer's PC and sent electronically to Equifax in Atlanta. There the request is decoded and the consumer's credit file is sent out by mail within 24 hours.
"We want to give our readers access to the complete buying experience through our home page," said Stephen Bedikian, development manager for new media, L.A. Times Company. "By including links to Equifax on our Autosource and Homesource services, we've included a review of the consumer's credit file as an integral part of the purchase process," he added.
